Telepresence and Holography / Holograms - November 2008

Editor’s viewpoint on their differences, likenesses and future...

We all just recently viewed an historic CNN holographic interview on an historic Election Night. CNN stated this type of imaging has never been done before on National TV and I believe that. I haven’t seen anything like it. The live interview caught me by surprise and sure had the “wow” factor attached to it didn’t it? Here’s a link to the actual interview.

CNN Hologram Video

The question now has to be asked. Is it Telepresence?

I’m no expert on the subject but I’m going to throw my hat into the ring, go out on a limb and say yes, I believe it is. Although I know many video conferencing purists are rolling their eyes and grabbing their guns right about now with my statement.

While I do know that Telepresence still hasn’t been universally defined (Houston, we have a problem), here’s how I see it…. Broken down to its simplest form - “tele” (through electronic means) and “presence” (present). This is how I’m justifying my opinion by lumping holography and Telepresence together. Just as Telepresence is surely an offshoot of video conferencing, holographic imaging (like we viewed on CNN) surely has to be considered an offshoot of Telepresence. The interviewer was “telepresent” from Chicago and beamed into the CNN Election Headquarters. She was most assuredly - “telepresent”. There was negligible latency, the imaging was fantastic and both interviewers were rehearsed on what they would say. I’ve just recently read that CNN actually “downgraded” the experience to make it “movie” quality and not as good as it could have been. Maybe they thought us mere mortals would be shocked if they showed their complete hand. I have a feeling it was so big to them, they didn’t want it to get upstaged by the historic election. I’m willing to bet we’ll see the “true” power of this technology in the upcoming weeks and months when they can put the pedal to the medal and show it off without having it sidetracked.

What an amazing time for this technology (all differences and opinions aside). Telepresence Doctors, nurses, teachers, schools and healthcare (healthpresence) will benefit from the recent gains in this state-of-the-art industry whether holograms, Telepresence or holography. Airlines also have to see the threat to a portion of their business travel. Hell, who wants go through security and fly to Miami for a two-hour conference when you can look them in the eye via Telepresence?

Beam me up Scotty! Simply amazing…!

Huntington Beach, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2008 -- InstantPresenter.com, a leading provider of Flash-based web conferencing (http://www.instantpresenter.com) and video conferencing (http://www.instantpresenter.com) services, now offers full Mac support for its screen sharing services. Screen sharing (http://www.instantpresenter.com) instantly shares the presenter's screen with their on-line audience, allowing them to present anything they do on their computer, not only the elements that they've integrated into their on-line presentation. Screen sharing can also be useful to show how to complete computer tasks that might otherwise be too difficult or time-consuming to explain in an on-line PowerPoint presentation. With Macs now holding 7% of the computer market share, being able to present to all of your customers (both PC and Mac users alike) is critical. At current, only a few video conferencing companies have Mac support, and with Apple's rapidly increasing market share, Mac support is becoming an increasingly more important feature. Mac updates also include the ability to record video conferencing sessions while using InstantPresenter. Screen sharing, video and audio meetings are all stored on InstantPresenter's high-speed web conferencing servers, and are always available for viewing and playback.

"We are very excited to embrace the Mac community and provide our extensive feature set to all Mac and Apple users. Now Mac users can not only broadcast and record their iSight camera and audio, but can also share their entire desktop with the world," states Costin Tuculescu, CEO of InstantPresenter.com.

In addition to Mac support, InstantPresenter now offers full PayPal Integration into their suite of services. PayPal is the leader in on-line banking with 24% market share of all on-line payments in the U.S. InstantPresenter PayPal Integration allows presenters to sell access to their webinars or video conferences, offering a quick and easy way to monetize their content. Product prices are set by the presenter and they receive 100% of the sale and InstantPresenter does not charge a sales commission. InstantPresenter's PayPal integration makes this process simple, safe and secure with one of the world's most trusted on-line banks. InstantPresenter PayPal integration starts at only $39 per month.

InstantPresenter now offers expanded video conferencing and webinar (http://www.instantpresenter.com) registration services. Registration services allow the presenter to find out exactly what the audience is interested in and allows the presentation to be tailored to those interests. Registration features include fully customizable forms for invitations, RSVP information or any other information the presenter would like to collect about the audience prior to the event. Data can be exported and downloaded directly into Excel. Registration Services start at only $29 per month.

Finally, InstantPresenter introduces its new Content Library. The Content Library allows the presenter to store up to 100MB of presentation content on InstantPresenter's high-speed video conferencing servers. Presenters can now instantly switch between data that is immediately available. The Content Library allows customers to store PowerPoint files, Flash presentation data, images, movies and audio files.
